A 'person' is a thinking, intelligent being that has reason and reflection and can consider itself as itself in different times and places, and personal identity—the sameness of a rational being—consists solely in the continuity of consciousness, which makes each of us to ourselves the same self as far as that consciousness can extend to past actions and thoughts.
